A replacement barrel, brush or concentrator can be a smaller purchase than another complete styling kit. The useful comparison starts with the machine already in your cupboard. An attachment’s shape and brand are not enough to confirm that it fits your model.

Make a short record of your machine
Find the model information on the machine or its original documentation. Record the full range name, any model identifier and the attachment you want to replace or add. Keep the original part number when it is available. Searching with those details is more precise than searching for a matching color.
Separate your objective from the accessory name. Replacing a lost concentrator, adding a differently sized barrel and buying another storage case are different purchases. Write down the actual missing function before comparing bundles that include several pieces you already own.
Compare the part number with the manufacturer’s model list
Dyson’s support page for the 1.2-inch Airwrap Long Barrel, part 974157-01 provides a compatibility section listing specific Airwrap multi-styler and Airwrap i.d. machines. Its separate page for the Airwrap i.d. Blade concentrator, part 973710-02 lists specific i.d. machines.
Those pages illustrate why the individual part matters. Do not take the machine list for the barrel and apply it to the concentrator, or turn either list into a claim that every generation fits. Locate your own machine in the compatibility section for the exact selected part.
| Detail | Useful check |
|---|---|
| Machine name and model | Match the stated compatible range and any listed model details. |
| Part number | Compare the complete identifier, including the suffix. |
| Attachment description | Distinguish a barrel, brush, concentrator and storage accessory. |
| Selected option | Confirm that changing color or size has not selected another part. |
Do not treat a similar name as a matching connector
A retailer may shorten a product title or group several accessories on one page. Open the detailed description and match the selected option to the manufacturer’s information. A title containing the broad styler-family name can still need a more specific model check.
If a seller’s list conflicts with the manufacturer’s compatibility list, resolve that exact combination before buying. Keep a screenshot or note of the selected part and model statement with your order. Do not use a photograph of a similar-looking connector as the only proof of fit.
Count the attachments you will use
List the functional pieces separately from cases, stands and packaging accessories. A bundle with more pieces is not automatically a useful upgrade if it repeats the attachments already in your kit. Compare the missing piece on its own with the complete bundle that supplies it.
For example, a shopper replacing one missing barrel needs to know whether a package contains that barrel, a different diameter or a pair with different functions. Another shopper may want a storage case rather than another styling tool. The two buyers should not rank bundles by the same largest piece count.
Check storage before adding a larger accessory
Measure the space where the attachment will be kept, including room for its widest section. If you use a fitted case, compare the case’s stated compatible pieces rather than assuming every new accessory fits the old insert. A supported machine connection does not establish storage-case fit.
Keep the machine manual and the attachment instructions available for use, removal and storage. Follow their handling directions rather than trying to force an uncertain accessory onto the machine. This is a purchasing checklist, not a replacement for the equipment instructions.
Before placing the order
- Match the exact machine to the selected part’s compatibility list.
- Check the full part number and chosen option.
- Identify the functional attachment separately from a case or stand.
- Compare only the pieces you need with the kit you own.
- Keep the product instructions and order details together.
