UPCOMING: member rewards, November 19–December 6

Active, signed-in Plus and Total members can earn 2% total rewards on qualifying purchases, including their ordinary 1%. Exclusions include AT&T/Verizon monthly-installment devices, tax, shipping/delivery fees and gift cards. Other program terms apply.

Holiday purchases: announced extended return dates

Best Buy’s holiday announcement says most purchases made October 30–December 31, 2026 can be returned through January 15, 2027, or January 31 for Plus and Total members. This is a seasonal shopping benefit, not a cash discount or a promise that every item qualifies.

Before buying a gift, check the seller, product exclusions and return deadline. The return policy excludes Marketplace purchases from Plus/Total extended timeframes and lists special device periods, nonreturnable items and possible restocking fees. Keep the receipt rather than assuming all gifts share one deadline. Read the holiday announcement and check the return policy. Terms reviewed November 3, 2026.

Compare the right version of the product

A Best Buy deal is not fully described by the product family. Storage, model year, display specification, included accessories, seller and condition can change the comparison. Record the exact model number before comparing prices. For laptops, check memory and storage; for televisions, check size and the precise model; for appliances, confirm measurements and necessary connections. This guide is a shopping framework, not a claim that a particular item is currently discounted or in stock.

Choose between new and open-box deliberately

Treat new, open-box, refurbished and marketplace listings as separate routes. For an open-box item, inspect the specific condition description and included accessories rather than assuming it is identical to a sealed unit. A missing remote, charger or mounting component can reduce the apparent saving. Confirm warranty information for the specific listing before purchase.

Here is illustrative arithmetic: a $360 open-box device that needs a $35 accessory costs $395 before tax. A comparable new device at $400 leaves a $5 difference, not a $40 difference. Whether that trade-off is worthwhile depends on condition, support and your tolerance for uncertainty. None of these figures represents a live Best Buy offer.

Use the price-match rules, not a stacking assumption

Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee applies to eligible new items sold by Best Buy and qualified competitors. Open-box, clearance, refurbished and marketplace products are excluded. The policy also excludes several promotional arrangements, including coupon, bundle and gift-card offers. If Best Buy lowers an eligible item’s price during its return-and-exchange period, a lower-price adjustment can be requested under the policy.

Compare the exact item, its seller and immediate availability before asking. Keep the complete listing and current price, not only a search-result snippet. Do not subtract a competitor coupon or a hypothetical future gift card and assume the resulting number must be matched. Approval under the retailer’s current terms is what establishes eligibility.

Check returns before choosing a seller or membership

The official return-and-exchange policy lists a standard 15-day period for most products and 60 days for qualifying My Best Buy Plus and Total members, with exceptions. Extended membership windows do not apply to marketplace purchases. Activatable devices, nonreturnable categories and products with possible restocking charges require separate checks. The period generally starts when the product is received.

Do not buy a membership solely because a generic comparison chart looks reassuring. First verify that the specific item, seller and benefit qualify, then compare the membership cost against benefits you realistically expect to use. A possible benefit on an unplanned future purchase is not equivalent to a discount today. Check the order’s actual deadline and save it with the receipt.

Add the costs that make the product usable

A television may need an appropriate mount or setup service; an appliance may need connection parts; a computer may need software or an adapter. List these separately so optional extras cannot masquerade as mandatory costs. Compare delivered and installed totals when services matter, rather than comparing an item-only price with an all-in quote.

For subscriptions or trials included with a purchase, check whether activation is optional, when billing begins and how cancellation works. Do not count a service you would never buy as dollar-for-dollar savings. For trade-ins, compare the actual accepted valuation and requirements instead of assuming the highest advertised amount will apply to your device.

Finish with a short order check

Before paying, confirm the model, condition, seller, accessories, shipping or pickup option, return deadline and total. An attractive monthly payment is not the same as a lower purchase price; compare the full amount and applicable terms. Keep packaging and test the product promptly so a problem is discovered while the relevant return process is still available.
