Uh oh! Some recent consumer reports suggest the batteries contained in several models of Sketchers light up shoes can burn little ones’ feet! The problems lie in the battery, which is something called a Ni-Cad battery. They are used in small devices since they are lighter and smaller then traditional lead-acid batteries.

The issue is the batteries are housed in an airtight container in the sole of the shoe. The battery is not able to vent properly and a gas build up can lead to chemical burns — even potential fires or explosions!

The class action affects several models of light up kids shoes – both boys and girls shoes included. Shopkins, S-Lights and Twinkletoes are 3 of the models believed to be at risk. Fox News reported of a child receiving 2nd degree chemical burns in June 2018 from wearing the shoes. If you have purchased Sketchers light up shoes since 2015, you may be eligible to participate in this class action suit. Click below to learn more.
