Old Disney Movies Worth Thousands!?

If you have old Disney movies , don’t throw them away! They could be worth a TON of money!!

The Internet is buzzing about rare Disney VHS movies from the Black Diamond Collection. Said to be super rare, these beloved classics are listed for $10,000 and up on eBay.

Which Old Disney Movies are actually rare? Many claim that 18 animated feature films from 1988 to 1993 on VHS with the telltale black diamond logo which reads “The Classics” on the clamshell cover.  Certain versions of Beauty and the Beast are listed for $10,000 and more on eBay.  Others mentioned included The Aristocats, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmations, Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Snow White.

What are these Old Disney Movies worth? Classics such as Bambi, Alice In Wonderland, The Sword In The Stone, and Dumbo may get snatched up by an avid Disney collector for over $50 each.  The more rare, Dumbo, sells for $200+ if you can find the right buyer.  More common flicks such as Lady And The Tramp sell for between $15-$20 and Robin Hood usually between $20 and $40. And The Little Mermaid, new in package sealed with a gold or silver Disney MSRP and no store sticker can get you upwards from $500+.

Some articles suggest that very specific rare editions of Old Disney Movies in excellent or unopened condition — which do have the black diamond logo — could be much more valuable than your average classic children’s movie. But, it seems that the black diamond logo alone does not equate to rareness according to Snopes.com. On eBay at the time of this posting, there were nearly 4,000 listings for diamond edition VHS tapes. Not exactly hard to find. Plus, if you walk into a thrift store or garage sale, you’re likely to find these old Disney VHS tapes for $1 – $2 each. While I encourage you to stock up on the classics and let your kids enjoy these wonderful treasures, I wouldn’t go out of my way to stockpile the old VHS tapes because you think you’re going to get a huge return on your investment. In most cases, you won’t. Don’t get me wrong. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t actually rare Disney VHS movies. There are! Like anything collectible, it varies based on supply and demand. Movies that were released and changed right away (either cover art or the movie editing to add or remove scenes, music, etc.) can make them much more limited, and therefore much more valuable.
