A text about a delivery problem can feel urgent, especially when you are already expecting an order. Treat an unexpected shipping text as unverified until you check it through a source you already trust.

Pause before you tap

  • Do not click a link or reply just because the message mentions a package, missed delivery, unpaid postage, or address update.
  • Do not enter card, banking, login, or personal information from a link in an unexpected message.
  • Do not use a phone number supplied in the text to “verify” the notice.

Verify a real delivery independently

Open the retailer account where you placed the order, or enter the carrier tracking number through the official site or app you access independently. Compare the expected package, order number, and tracking status with what you see there. A legitimate delivery issue can be handled through the seller or carrier’s known support path.

What to do with a suspicious message

  1. Use your phone’s report-junk or spam option if available.
  2. Forward unwanted text messages to 7726 (SPAM) where supported.
  3. Delete the message after reporting it.
  4. If you entered information or paid, contact the financial institution or payment provider using a verified contact method and report suspected fraud promptly.

Keep order details private

Order confirmations and tracking numbers can help you check a real delivery, but do not post them publicly or send them to an unknown person who contacted you first.

Source notes

The FTC’s package-text alert says to verify delivery information through the retailer account or official source rather than clicking a text link. Its spam-text guidance explains reporting options.
